IT IS ALWAYS A GOOD IDEA TO REPLACE THE RAG JOINT WHEN DOING ANY WORK ON THE STEERING SYSTEM. RAG JOINTS PROVIDE A SMALL AMOUNT OF FLEX FOR A STEERING SHAFT WITHIN A FEW DEGREES OF THE SAME PLANE AS THE STEERING GEAR INPUT SHAFT. THEY ALSO PROVIDE SOME DAMPING OF VIBRATION COMING FROM THE STEERING SYSTEM, PROVIDING SOME ISOLATION FOR THE STEERING WHEEL. THESE JOINTS WILL WEAR OVER TIME, SO REPLACING THEM IS AN INEXPENSIVE WAY TO REFRESH THE STEERING SYSTEM.
